Securities and Exchange Board of India - SEBI

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI):

SEBI Act, 1992: Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) was first established in the year 1988 as a non-statutory body for regulating the securities market. It became an autonomous body in 1992 and more powers were given through an ordinance. Since then, it is regulating the market through its independent powers.

Problem Of Stock Market Before SEBI Came:

  • Market was extremely restrictive regulation on the Issuers enforced by the Controller of capital issues.(cc). First organized stock exchange was established in 1875 in Bombay.
  • There were 20 regional stock exchange in Bombay in 1992.
  • But trading was concentrated by BSE and it enjoy monopoly.
  • User from out side Bombay found it extremely difficult for trading.
